Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 12 to 15 minutes Total Time: 30 minutes Servings: 8 mummy hot dogs
Ingredients
For the Mummy Hot Dogs
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
- Yellow mustard, for decorating the eyes
For Serving
- Ketchup
- Yellow mustard
- Honey mustard
- Barbecue sauce
Directions
1. Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease your Phantom Chef Ceramic Nonstick Large Cookie Sheet or line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
2. Prepare the dough. Unroll the refrigerated crescent dough onto a clean work surface. If using perforated crescent rolls, gently press the seams together to create a single sheet of dough.
3. Cut the mummy bandages. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the dough into thin strips approximately 1/4 inch wide. These strips will become the mummy bandages.
4. Wrap the hot dogs. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Starting at one end, wrap several strips of dough around each hot dog, overlapping slightly to resemble mummy bandages. Leave a small opening near the top for the eyes.
5. Arrange on the baking sheet. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared cookie sheet, leaving approximately 1 inch of space between each one to allow the dough to expand during baking.
6. Brush with butter. Lightly brush the dough with melted butter. If desired, sprinkle with garlic powder and dried parsley for additional flavor.
7. Bake until golden. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed, golden brown, and fully cooked.
8. Add the mummy eyes. Allow the mummy hot dogs to cool for 2 to 3 minutes. Using a toothpick or the tip of a squeeze bottle, add two small dots of yellow mustard in the exposed opening of each mummy to create eyes.
9. Serve and enjoy. Arrange the mummy hot dogs on a serving platter with small bowls of ketchup, mustard, honey mustard, and barbecue sauce. Serve warm for a spooky Halloween snack.
Tips
For the best mummy appearance, cut the crescent dough into thin, even strips and wrap them loosely around the hot dogs. This allows the dough to puff up while maintaining the bandage design.
Leave a small opening near the top of each hot dog so there's plenty of room to add the mummy eyes after baking.
For a cheesy variation, place a thin strip of cheddar or mozzarella cheese against each hot dog before wrapping it with dough.
Make mini mummy hot dogs using cocktail sausages and shorter strips of crescent dough. They're perfect for Halloween appetizer platters and bite-sized party snacks. Reduce the baking time as needed, cooking until the dough is golden and fully baked.
For a fun Halloween presentation, serve the mummies on a dark platter with small bowls of dipping sauces and festive decorations.
