Ingredients
For the Apple Bites
- 3 medium firm apples, such as Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith.
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted.
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup.
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar.
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg.
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Pinch of kosher salt.
For Serving
- Additional maple syrup, optional.
- Chopped pecans or walnuts, optional.
- Powdered sugar, optional.
- Vanilla ice cream, optional.
- Caramel sauce, optional.
Directions
1. Prepare the Apples
Peel the apples, if desired, then core and cut them into approximately 1-inch pieces.
Try to keep the pieces similar in size so they cook evenly.
2. Add the Maple Cinnamon Coating
In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt.
Add the apple pieces and toss until evenly coated.
3. Prepare the Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F, if your model requires preheating.
Place a Phantom Air Fryer Liner in the air fryer basket according to the product instructions.
Do not preheat the air fryer with an empty disposable liner inside. Add the liner when you are ready to add the food so it remains properly weighted during cooking.
4. Air Fry
Arrange the coated apples on the liner in an even layer.
Air fry at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes, gently tossing or stirring the apples halfway through cooking.
The apples are ready when they are tender with lightly browned, caramelized edges. Cooking time may vary depending on the variety of apple and air fryer.
5. Finish & Serve
Carefully remove the apples from the air fryer.
Serve warm with an extra drizzle of maple syrup and chopped pecans or walnuts, if desired.
For dessert, spoon the warm apple bites over vanilla ice cream and finish with caramel sauce.
Make It Your Own
For extra crunch, add chopped pecans or walnuts during the final few minutes of cooking. You can also add a pinch of ground ginger or cardamom to the cinnamon mixture for even more warm fall flavor.
Turn the apple bites into an easy breakfast by spooning them over oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes, or waffles. For an indulgent fall dessert, serve them warm over vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
